Audible Tone: What are the Articles of confederation?
Today we will continue on with the Articles of Confederation. We will also watch a short video on Shay's Rebellion and the importance of it leading to the Constitution. Audible Tone: Why is the 2nd paragraph of the Declaration of Independence so radical?
We will continue our discussion of the Declaration of Independence and it's meaning. We will also have power point on the Articles of Confederation. Don't forget, the Fed 10 lanahan is due Thursday. Audible Tone: Why declare independence? Turn in.
Continue working on the Declaration of Independence assignment. When finished we will discuss it in class. New Lanahan will be given out. Read #9 in the Lanahan book (It is also in the back of your Textbook page A21). This is Federalist #10 by James Madison found on page 49. After reading the article, you are to briefly explain Madison’s argument and say whether you feel that our present system of two political parties would satisfy him or not. Focus on your own analysis, not on the summary. I read the article also, so you do not have to tell me much about it. I want to see what you think about Madison’s arguments and how they apply today. Use at least two examples (write the page number) from the article to support your position as well as outside information (current examples from government). This should be somewhere in the range of a 1-2 page written response. Due Friday October 1st. 15 points. Audible Tone: What important ideas does John Locke contribute to American Society?
We will finish discussing the timeline of events leading to the Constitution. We will also begin the Declaration of Independence assignment in class. Most likely, there will be time to work on it tomorrow as well. Declaration of Independence Assignment. In groups of four or less, explain in very precise terms why the colonists declared their independence. Use the actual document and focus on two particular areas. 1. What rights did the colonists feel that they were entitled to that they may not have been receiving? 2. What offenses was the king accused of by the colonists? There is a great deal of info in this and you are expected to explain all of it. Put it into your own words. You can do this as bullets, but be prepared, there are a great many of them. This will take you at least a page (probably more) to do a complete job. Yes, you do have to address each one of the “He has” and “For doing …” that are in the Declaration. I will be a jerk when I grade this. 20 points Audible Tone: Is pluralism healthy in our society today? Why/why not?
